Permission to film in Uganda Hospitals and health centers

Those intending to come to Uganda to film in Hospitals or any health center must seek permission from the ministry of heathy headquarters based in Kampala. This process is a lengthy one and one must allow at least 6 to 8 months in advance. The reason we insist on many months is that the process involves government with its bureaucracies. We need time to press a formal and written request which we have to be made aware of different offices and authorities with in the ministry of health. All this requires enough time, connections and patience. The nature of your shoot or proposed documentary will determine whether permission will be granted or not. Ministry of health looks at whether your filming project will not in any way affect patients and works in a given hospital. The ministry of health in Uganda takes privacy of its patients and workers highly. Send us a brief of your documentary project and we will start processing your filming permission with the ministry of health.

Location Scouting (In reference to the hospital of Healthy centers)

As soon as your project has been assigned to the film crew, we will start by conducting a visit to establish the process, facilities, amenities, where to stay and how to get there. This process may involve sending one of our staff to visit a hospital in question ahead of your visit. If you prefer sending one of your own, Film Crew fixers will be available to make sure that the process of scouting goes in without hassle. Please contact us for more details.

Press or Media Accreditation in Uganda

The most important step to film in Uganda is to acquire your press accreditation or media card issued by Uganda Media council. No one is allowed to film or shoot in Uganda without a media pass. Film Crew fixers assists in process media cards in 2-3 working days as long as we have the required paperwork from you. The cost of each media card varies depending on the duration of your shoot. A media card for days not more than 30 costs $175 which is paid to Uganda Media council. Please contact us for more information about processing and cost of your media pass.

Visa and Work permits

To enter Uganda for any purpose, one must hold a valid passport and visa issued by the government of Uganda. Uganda Visa can be obtained on arrival at Entebbe International Airport or any border point. You need a valid passport and yellow fever and COVID 19 certificate. A fee of not less than $50 dollars will be paid at customs in cash. For those interested in staying longer because of work-related issues, a work permit will be needed.  Contact us for all these and more and we will be glad to advise.

Kit customs clearing at Boarder points or Airport

Filming in Uganda requires you to bring in your filming equipment or hiring from neighboring countries like Kenya or South Africa. Uganda is not a carnet free Country and as such, a fee to create a bond is mandatory. Please send us a list of your film equipment showing type, serial number, and value of each and we will send it to our clearing agent for evaluation to establish the cost of clearing. This process takes 2-3 working days to complete this process. Please send us an email for more information on this.

Accommodation and Transport

You need a car to move around while filming in Uganda’s Hospitals and health centers. Film Crew fixers Uganda will provide a vehicle and driver who will be with you throughout the whole shoot. Our driver will make sure that your transport needs are handled well for the smooth running of your filming project. We charge vehicle fee per day and fuel depends on the mileage after the shoot. We also negotiate competitive rates for accommodation and advise on available options in the area.
